ARE DECISIONS MADE BY BRAIN OR BY HEART?
Social Stories

Modern computing has opened new horizons for people. The whole modern computing is revolving around a micro chip called micro processor. It works like a brain and it decides on the basis of mathematical logics which results as modern banking system, website promotion and management these websites which contain tons of information but the important is “decision”.

According to Ecclesiastes the whole universe is working in a harmonious way under a determined schedule and in this miraculous system decisions play pivotal role: decided and decisive both. If we ponder over the creation and evolution of this universe then it becomes more obvious. Decision of Satin to disobey God, as John Milton says in “Paradise Lost”: “It is better to rule in hell than to serve in heaven”. Decision of Adam to pluck fruit from prohibited tree, Decision of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) at the eve of Agreement of Hudabia, Francis Reddy’s decision to disagree with Aristotle on the issue of spontaneous generation etc.

Now the question arises are decisions made by brain or by heart? For authenticity and reliability, Quranic verses are the best source of guidance and clarity about any controversies and debatable issues. Almighty Allah says in Syrah-e-Jasia, chapter#25, Verse #5 “Difference between day and night, food from heaven, give birth to earth after its death. These are some indications for those people who have intellect”. In Surah-e-Bakra, chapter#1,Verse# 169-171, Almighty Allah reprimanded those people who do not use their brain by declaring them “Deaf,Dumb,Blind and senseless” because they preferred to follow the way of their ancestors not the orders of God. Allah says “Their forefathers did not possess intellect and they were detracked”.In Sahih Muslim, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) says “The base of my religion is intellect”. From the references it is very much obvious that base of critical-thinking, broad-vision, authentic conclusion and prudent decision making is brain not heart.

Scientifically speaking, brain as organ in body acts as control center having centralized position. Its most essential part” cerebrum” helps in decision making by giving response after receiving sensory information. This mind-blowing creation of Almighty, having weight of 1.35 kg can create havoc in the world or can cross all the limits of philanthropy

In sense of humanism. On the other hand, heart having weight about 250-300g, collects and distributes blood. Its beating function and rythmicity depend on brain’s control. Even increase and decrease of heart beat in case of happiness or sorrows is controlled by brain.

So with due respect to poets similes and metaphors, heart plays no role in decision-making. When Hamlet says “To be or not be, that is the question”. It’s a state of dilemma in brain not heart. Clash between intellect (Aqal) and love (Ishq) is a very strong theme in Allama Iqbal’s revolutionary poetry and Iqbal supports Ishq not Aqal.Personalities like Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Gandhi, Winston Spencer Churchill, Mao-Tse Tung, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatir Mohammad created history due to their steely and logical decision making. Japan is ruling over the world’s economy because they did not make any emotional decisions after the catastrophic attacks by America on their two glorious cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.While on the other hand, we Muslims are busy in self-destruction through suicidal attacks, lock-outs, strikes etc.Judicious, rational and visionary decisions are based on critical thinking and logical conclusion not on emotions and feelings. That is why masses of any country usually do not agree with the decisions of think-tank or intelligentsia of any country about any critical national or international issue.

The hearts of birds, snakes, horses have more resemblance with man’s heart. If we say that heart makes decision than why all these creatures don’t possess prudent decision-making like a man. Ironically, in case of death of a man, heart stops functioning first than brain. There can be a difference of 8 to 10 minutes between heart and brain’s death. I am sure that my arguments will appeal your brain not heart.

NOTE: It’s my humble research on a very delicate topic. Any sort of correction is welcome by readers. It will be very beneficial to enhance my limited knowledge.

THE STYLE OF AUTHER IS QUITE PERSUADING......his outlook is impressing but he is trying to correlate the DIVINE KNOWLEDGE with modern scientific approach,an outproduct of FASHISM,CAPITAL ISM,COLONIALISM AND MATERIALISM...science is limitized to 5 senses and we can never compare finity to infinity..he also shows his spiritual command by depicting IQBAL'S SCHOOL OF THOUGHT about "ISHQ".HE IS THE MAGICIAN OF WORDS IN EMOTIONAL RESPECTS BUT ALWAYS tries to reverse him from manipulating the idea by his mental approach.the beautiful use of words has been seen in this article.....heart is actully not an organ in poetry and philosophy.....it is actually MAN'S WILL to do smthng...every creature of GOD has brain but no WILL....I THINK,THE SOUL OF MAN IS HEART AND IT IS RIDICULOUS TO POINT OUT AS CORNARY ORGAN THROUGH MEDICAL APPROACH AND MIX IT WITH 'HEART' OF PHILOSOPHICAL PHRASE ....anyhow the attepmt is very excellent......he shouid jot down more.....may ALLAH provide him further oppertunities to explore the INFINITE SECRETS through his 5 senses..........waiting 4 his next article.

there will be not any better possible way to discuss the debate than this one in which the author has carried it. As I want to say that finally by the words of Mr. Shahid Mukhtar the heart has quit the debate.

I AGREE UR THOUGHT
BUT WITHOUT THE COMBINATION OF MANS 5 SENSES THE LIFE WOULD BE IMPOSSIBL
THERE MUST BE A CORELATION BETWEEN ALL ORGANS
I THINK THE BRAIN IS COMMANDING THE DECIOSION BUT THE COOPERATION OF HEATS,HANDA AND FEET MATTERS MUCH

if we believe that decisions are made by brian then we should not believe GOD bcz HE is disappear.it is our heart that believes HIM. GOD lives in MOMIN's heart some decisions are like that, they only made by heart but some decisions which are made by brain are hard according to others but infact they are for their welfare we can say that hard without being soft. As a result both heart and brain are involved in decision making it depends upon the nature of decision
