Being a social animal, man has been striving to improve his means of communication. In different eras, different modes have been used for this purpose but IT (information technology) has brought revolutionary enhancement in this sense. Distances have shrunk, flow of information is under control, exploration of new horizons is accessible but the burning question is: The brighter aspects of IT are more obvious than the darker ones or vice-versa in the context of social relations? No doubt, the facade of IT is very glamorious. The distance from ‘Pigeon’ to ‘e-mail’ is miraculous. It is also a fact that a person who is living in the rural area of a third-world country can keep himself well-informed and highly knowledgeable with the help of IT. But the question arises where he should use that information and knowledge?. Knowledge without proper opportunity and exposure becomes curse. Only a strong economic system can produce opportunities for masses in all fields of life. This dilemma affects the social, moral, domestic and professional ethics of a person. After getting awareness through IT, that person feels a huge communication gap between himself and others who have no access to IT. As capitalism produced two classes i.e. ‘have’ and ‘have nots’, IT is also bifurcating social relations in the same way. Today’s generation feels themselves stuck in a limbo. On one side new horizons of IT are inviting them to break all sorts of walls and on the other hand orthodox social values and stereotype moral taboos confine them in the cage of mystic detachment. Different sources of IT are presenting different versions of a single idea or debate. As excess of everything is bad, this latest trend of excessive information is producing a perplexed, confused and as T.S.Eliot says ‘lost generation’ especially about social relation. Like the bamboozled characters of Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”, today’s generation is facing a double-edge razor sort of situation. They are seeking for a balanced approach about holding IT in one hand and social values in other hand. Abundance of knowledge has produced the dearth of solutions. All mediums of IT are exposing the problems relating to social relations but no one is guiding the masses towards a judicious and practicable solution. The best parameter to judge the success and character of an individual is to observe his social dealings (domestic, matrimonial, social and professional).Modern technology should be used to improve one’s social life. Through self-discipline one should learn the art of sifting the important and unimportant information to enhance professional skills and to beautify social relations.
