According to James Michener, “An age is called Dark not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it”. In this modern age, ‘IT’ has become an integral part of our life. ‘IT’ literacy is compulsory requirement for key posts in different professional fields. In this universe nothing is permanent but change. Change is indispensable. If we change ourselves according to changing circumstances then that change can be positive or vice-versa. In simple words if we fail to plan, we plan to fail.
‘IT’ illiterate class is struggling hard for survival in different fields of life. Lack of ‘IT’ skill has become major stumbling-block in their progress. They just exist in cut-throat competition, not flourish. For example in modern banking computer has replaced manual-based-clerical jobs. Through golden-hand shake or in the name of down-sizing, banks are getting rid of ‘IT’ illiterate workers. In the field of education ‘IT’ literacy plays pivotal for the development of student as well as teacher. In modern teaching methods, research-based lectures with latest information are only possible through ‘IT’. If a student wants to distinguish himself from others, ‘IT’ helps him in the preparation of assignments, presentations and demonstrations. ‘IT’ illiterate students feel themselves deprived and paralyzed. They do not have an easy access to their desired books and required information. ‘IT serves like an encyclopedia-cum-prophet for students and teachers. In commerce, agriculture, trade even in sports ‘IT’ is very influential. Computer analyst is an important part of supporting staff of different teams. You can see laptops in front of professional coaches during match, which guides them about records and calculations of teams and players. Personals serving at lower management at different positions like receptionists, clerks, security guards, store-keepers cannot get job in big organizations without computer literacy. An obvious truth is in the absence of this unavoidable skill, workers remain in the line of fire and do not progress due to constant sense of insecurity. As Alfred Mont pert says: “Do not confuse motion and progress. A rocking horse keeps moving but doesn’t make any progress”. As social status, domestic life, peace of mind, emotional poise, public relation and future are directly dictated by professional success or failure of a person, ‘IT’ illiterates consider themselves plucked, outcaste and misfit in modern society. They behave like frozen-statues in demanding working environment due to fear of mistakes. It is the moral duty of computer literates to share their knowledge and ‘IT’ skills with colleagues and fellows. Adaptability and enthusiasm of learning new ideas are the two characteristics which should be cultivated by ‘IT’ illiterates. ‘IT’ is a challenge and this should be perceived and conceived with positive attitude because our attitude determines our altitude. ‘IT’ is designed for more effective working, better results, time-saving and openness of mind. Requirements for survival vary from period to period. The solution of any challenge is only possible by going through it. Escapist attitude can further enhance it. As Robert Frost says,” The reason why worry kills more people than work is that more people worry than work”. |
